The Early Development of Global Education
Charitable Foundation
HUMACAO, PUERTO RICO - 700 EDGE Children from selected low income families will receive new shoes donated by Payless ShoeSource’s “Payless Gives Shoes 4 Kids” through The Early Development of Global Education (EDGE) Charitable Foundation on Tuesday, December 6th, 2011 at 9:00 am in Humacao, Puerto Rico.
Each child will receive a gift card from Payless ShoeSource totaling a gift of $10,500 through a grant awarded to The EDGE Charitable Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit organization based in Miami, Florida, for a third consecutive year. Children were selected through EDGE Children for Children Member School: Proyecto Head Start Municipio Autonomo de Humacao, de Puerto Rico based on their economic standing and who had the greatest need. Approximately 1,157 children attend Proyecto Head Start Municipio Autonomo de Humacao, de Puerto Rico.
Footwear is a basic need that many of us take for granted, and yet a significant number of children need shoes. With rising unemployment and food costs it is difficult for parents to cover basic needs, thus making the holidays an even more stressful time for struggling families. Studies show that properly fitted shoes can enhance self confidence in children and aid in their proper development and growth.
In addition to this amazing endeavor sponsored by Payless ShoeSource, Caribe Hilton Hotel in Puerto Rico will sponsor the stay of the EDGE Founders Mercy Hernandez, Irma Gomez, Priya Nembhard, Maria Paez-Garcia and long time volunteer Raquel Hernandez, for the entire trip.
“We are humbled and grateful for the gift Payless ShoeSource has given our children this year. It means so much to the families and the community of Humacao, Puerto Rico to be able to provide basic needs to their children. Our EDGE Children for Children Member School has done so much to educate their children about the needs of our planet and the importance of giving back through The EDGE mission,” says Priya Nembhard.
