CHILD CARE PROVIDERS: BLEACH IN YOUR SCHOOL

Last week The Early Development of Global Education (EDGE) announced its newest development with The Department of Children and Families and their recognition of our report on the harmful affects of BLEACH and the use of harmful disinfectants in schools.

Some of you had important questions about this. Here is what some of you had to say:

What Administrative Code did this have to do with?
The use of sanitizers and disinfectants in schools is associated with Florida Administrative Code 65C22-002.

Can I discontinue the use of bleach in my school?
Yes, you can. The Administrative Code does not mandate the use of bleach. This is a misconception that bleach is mandatory. It only suggests the solution ratio of bleach and water. Inspectors are misinformed and are requiring the use of bleach because they are not clear about the code or about the dangerous affects of bleach.

Our Children are faced everyday with all sorts of products that are not healthy for their growth and development. Most adults do not think about the materials or chemicals toys, cups, clothes or cleaners are made of. These items are bought out of convenience and most of the time love but what they are made of does not go into account. Here are some items to think about:

Stress In Our Children

According to a 2004 Psychiatric Services case study preschoolers are the fastest-growing market for antidepressants. At least four percent of preschoolers, over a million, are clinically depressed. What does this mean? It means that children are stressed out and off balance emotionally. According to this study children absorb the stress of the adults and parents in the household. So if mommy is angry at everyone because she had a bad day at work and takes the anger out on her child by screaming or looking unhappy little Timmy will take in that stress and exhibit it in other ways.

Children deal with stress much differently than adults do. Their reactions are much more concrete than adults.
