Don’t Declog Pipes and Plumbing With Draino

Go chemical free to rid yourself of hairballs and other clogged pipes… in the sink or tub that is. Nobody likes a slow or totally clogged drain but there is no need to run out to the store and purchase a liquid chemical to bust through the mess. Chemicals like Draino are caustic to your pipes after multiple efforts, not to mention irritating to your nose and skin, and a new bottle is required each time, which leads to a lot of plastic build-up in the dump. Try Zip It or Cobra Wire Drain Auger instead and enjoy the one-time purchase that will help your pipes stay clear for years to come without the not-so-earth-friendly chemical goo.

Choose Safe Art Supplies For Your Kids

Young artists should be able to use safe supplies — read your labels. Not all art supplies were created equally — apparently there are some crafty items that contain hazardous chemicals but if you know what to look for you won’t have to subject your children to toxic materials. The Art & Creative Materials Institute certifies products with their AP label if it contains no ingredients found to be hazardous by a toxicologist, but it doesn’t weed out everything. In California, the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment has put together a long list of items (23 pages!) not allowed in K – 6th Grades due to their toxic nature. You’ll be surprised which familiar brands are on the list — check it before your next purchase of glue, paints or other artsy materials.
